... 461 Ocean Boulevard by Eric Clapton. Good sunny CD

Eels sound back to form after a few v. dodgy albums. Tis growing on me.

I heard Eels in concert last wednesday, in Oslo. They were all very good, not least the banter in between the musical pieces. They got through a lot of material and played for about 80 minutes with no breaks. The pieces tended to be fairly short, without the pop-song mindless repetitions and fade-outs, which I liked. The whole thing seemed to be to a high standard of musicianship. This offset the thought "are they taking the piss?" caused by the late start.

The strangest thing was to see him smoking on stage; smoking in such a public indoor arena is banned here, but no-one dared object, presumably worried that the wonderful music might stop. Or maybe people were wondering if smoking as part of an artistic act is not banned - I must look that one up.

I've seen them live twice. Fantastic.

I've only had a cursory listen to their new one, and, well...maybe it'll grow on me.

Hate Eric Clapton with a passion.

Maddog I like the Eels, which album is it most like?

To my ears, it's most like Beautiful Freak - was that their first?

After BF I bought their subsequent albums - Souljacker and Electro Blues or something - which I thought were pretty crap and I hardly ever listened to them. Luckily they've rediscovered their form for this album.
