Today's Windows Virus - MyDoom / Novarg

This one is bad. I've never before received more than 1 or 2 virus infected e-mails from the previous "epidemics" but in the last half an hour I've received about 15 with this virus. All "bounced" by my e-mail service (www.fastmail.fm) automatically before they even got to me because they were infected :)

We had thousands of these going through our mail server today, none of them got through mind you.

It must be big, there's a story about it on the BBC website.

Ah the gloating pleasures of owning a mac :p

My works has it though.

All I know is that somebody(ies) who have my email address on their PCs have been infected. They've been sending infected emails apparently from me that get bounced by the recipient and then returned to me. I guess that gives the bastard two goes at infecting someone.

I've received 100s of e-mails with this virus now and none of them has anything to do with me using a PC. I very, very rarely use Outlook Express (or any other e-mail client for that matter) on my PC. I just use the web interface that my e-mail service (www.fastmail.fm) provides and it's filtering the virus out but leaving me a "this e-mail was rejected because of a virus" messages for each one. Doesn't stop it from being bloody irritating though :(

Received quite a few of these emails myself over the last few days. Either with the subject heading "test" or emails which just look like failed delivery notifications. All received from addresses that I don't recognise. Also, they're turning up in a mail account that I don't subscribe to lists with either nor do I normally ever receive spam at this address either, so I wonder if someone I know has this virus on their PC.

Do you believe that SCO started this lawsuit so they could be bought out by IBM for a $bn, making bundles for the existing shareholders, as some web sites are suggesting? It seems to have gone a bit pear shaped for them.

BUT, look on the bright side, look at what they've achieved. In some quarters, they're more hated than Microsoft.:D Who could've predicted that?

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 (KB832894)

Looks like a fix from MS and although I do not run IE I'll still add it to my XP system. I have noticed every now when using Mozilla Firebird that some sites manage to open IE windows in the back ground. . . most odd. I suspect yhis fix is not 100% for the browser (even if you don't run Internet Explorer as your Web browser) but something deep in the internals needs fixing.

So folks go and have a look at where you get you MS updsates from and decide if you need to install this lates bit of fly paper.

Identified security issues in Internet Explorer could allow an attacker to compromise a Windows-based system. For example, an attacker could run programs on your computer while you view a Web page. This affects all computers with Internet Explorer installed (even if you don't run Internet Explorer as your Web browser). After you install this item, you may need to restart your computer.
