Hi all, I've been given a Sony Ericsson W800i but its locked to Orange. Any idea how I'd unlock it without paying anything or do I have to chance my arm with one of the companies that pop up when I try and google an answer?!

No free way (i.e. code input on the handset) for the majority of SE phones, I'm afraid...

Easiest bet... find a market stall and get charged £5-10 to have it unlocked.

You can probably sort the cable and software yourself, and even sell the cable on, but most market stalls/shops will have a collection of cables/clips to do all phones!

Ah ok. Cheers Mark. Actually just searched 'unlock phone' and see ZG has already covered it. Sounds like I'll have to get myself down the shops then.

This a good question.

My old nokia 3300 is getting a bit old in the tooth

A mates got some spare phones ( can't remeber what)

Is this a reliable method?

Or is it easier to ebay some hting .....virgin/payg?

(Hope its ok to gate crash the thread!!) :D :D

I've considered getting my phone unlocked. My contract isjust about up now. Will they still expect me to pay for an unlock code even though my contract is fully paid up?

If you have fulfilled the terms of the contract phone them and ask for the unlock code.

What phone do you have MO? Have a search on the web for your phone model and 'unlock codes' and see if you can find them there. I did it for a Nokia (6230), wasn't too tricky, just had to follow a sequence.....but not sure if it's that easy for all phones.

no - an actual mobile phone... a nokia jobbie with colour screen etc...

can't remember is if was bvrand new or second hand - but they were both like new... :)

Ah, OK, in that case best refer to post #2 for the best option!

Obviously it's easier to unlock a nokia for free than it is other manufacturers!
