ARCAM CD23T (text version) UPDATED with the latest 24 BIT / 192Khz DAC 10 upsampling multidac board from ARCAM, the same DAC board used in the CD36, ARCAM's top of the line CD-only player.

This new DAC board does NOT support HDCD format, but incorporates the latest audio up-sampling technology to convert the 44.1kHz data from the CD up to 192kHz in 24-bit precision, for a sound that excels in naturalness, power, neutrality and detail.

    Other features:

    • 4 state-of-the-art WOLFSON 8740 24-bit stereo dacs, operating in dual mono configuration.

    • Ultra high precision Analog Devices AD797 and high current Burr Brown OPA2134 op amps.

    • Top quality capacitors (SANYO OS-CON, ultra low impedance ZA/ZL Rubycon caps, ELNA SILMIC/STARGET caps, WIMA polyester film decoupling caps)

    • Two pairs of analog outputs, with gold plated RCA connectors.

    • 2 transformers, with a dedicated, high quality toroidal transformer to supply the sensitive audio circuitry in the upsampling multi DAC board.

    • Impressively rigid “Acousteel†chassis (two layers of steel of different thickness with an elastic damping layer in between)

The player is in pristine condition and comes complete with ARCAM CR314 CD/DVD remote, power cord, handbook and ARCAM factory box. Silver finish. 220-240 Vac.

Price: 900 euro + shipping costs. Paypal adds 3%.

No, because the new ARCAM upsampling multidac board installed in the player does not incorporate the HDCD decoder/digital filter (it was discontinued a few years ago).

I have had both the cd23 and the cd23t , they both have hdcd capability and the little red light on the left lights up when playing them.

Yes, but the HDCD filter/decoder was located in the DAC board, and this CD23t has been UPDATED with the new 10 DAC board of the CD36. This new DAC board incorporates the state-of-the-art ANALOG DEVICES AD1896 upsampler instead of the old, discontinued HDCD filter/decoder.

    It's true.

I have compared this updated FMJ CD23T with the standard FMJ CD36 (The Absolute Sound 2006 Editors' Choice Award winner), and the sound is virtually IDENTICAL in all respects.

But this updated CD23T has a definite, important edge over the CD36: it incorporates the great (and discontinued) SONY CDM14BL-BD25 CD mechanism, a much more reliable, silent and smooth CD mechanism than the one fitted into the CD36.

This SONY CD mechanism was also fitted into the successor to the CD23T, the CD33T. Regarding this player, John Atkinson, in the STEREOPHILE review on it, said the following:

"Error correction, assessed using the Pierre Verany Test CD, which has laser-cut gaps in the data spiral up to 2mm in length, was the best I have ever encountered—there were no audible glitches in the sound at all. Looking at the data from the CD33's S/PDIF output using RME's Digicheck program indicated that one heck of a lot of error concealment was going on with the longer gaps in the data, but this didn't result in the player muting. Extraordinary performance."

Is it necessary to say more?

The player is still for sale and boxed, in absolutely PRISTINE, IMMACULATE condition.

A great opportunity to get a remarkable CD player with the same performance of the old top-of-the line ARCAM FMJ CD36, but with the much more reliable transport mechanism of the CD23T / CD33T series.
