Upgrading from passive to active

I may come accross as a bit of a know it all - but look at this thread. I have admitted those areas I have found need improving and taken on the advice of others with an open mind. And I havent descended to juvenile behaviour - unlike Penance who is doing a pretty good job of making all my points form me if he did but realise it :P

Like many on this forum I have an ego - at least I can admit it. I also accept my tone is rather brisk and much more definate sounding than I am actually thinking - thats just my writing style. Too many yeras of technical papers.

My main crime was to say I didnt like linn naim atc mana and a few other things and then the same group of half a dozen people now run around after me. I guess its rather flattering in a way :S

I dont mind a bit of a joke at my expense when it weaves into the thread but when it descends into tedious pantomime its just dull and chilidsh and puts people off. If penance and bub had actually participated in the content of the thread - as the others did when they ribbed me then I would have made no comment.

Actually your main crime was to say you didn't like just about everything, and that PMC/Bryston was pretty much as good as it gets.

This led some to conclude that you didn't know what you were talking about, and they seem to have followed you around.

You could use the knowledge available on forums like this one to improve the quality of your hifi, or you could choose to claim superiority, wave your rather flagging willy, and defend your corner to the bitter end.

An adult would surely have chosen the former?

No I stated what I had heard and that what I bought was the best I had heard so far IN MY OPINION. Which you happened to interpret in that light - when those things I had heard included some of the things other people like. You are all free to dislike pmc or bryston as much as you like - its your choice.

If you read this thread you will see I have chosen the former. Which doesnt necessarily coincide with listening to what you have to say :P

My arrival rattled the cages of a few old birds and set them a sqwarking! Now they fly around my head constantly - pecking at me.

Anyway enough of raking over the same old ground - lets get back to the thread.

I am ordering the behringer and a mic and will spend some time in earnest on the room measurement. I will post some plots for discussion.

Unfortunate, as it is clear that a number of highly experienced people are telling you you are backing the wrong horse.

You are of course referring - somewhat immodestly - to yourself and my continued refusal to worship at the altar of your false idols. Get thee behind me Mammon!

And that is the entire problem - besides those who just want to jump on for ride like penance.

Yeah right ;)

I have a lot of respect for Thorsten but I dont think Bub is a highly experienced listener as by his own admission he doesnt listen to kit before buying it and goes mainly by looks and hifi mag reviews. No disrespect to bub intended of course.

The theorem of internet forums:

Yes that would be quite interesting - anyone seen a review with those plots?

None taken. I don't set myself up as some sort of expert. OTOH, I have been interested in hi-fi for over 20 years, and I have heard quite a few systems. My system is very pleasing, I think. If you can behave yourself in company, you would be more than welcome to hear it. You might learn something, or possibly you wouldn't.

My real personality is perhaps not identical to the one which is presented on forums.

Indeed same here - I am actually a rather laid back sort of a chap. I think you may be on the right track bub though the route be a long and winding one due to the bizarre methodology - replace that naim pre with a django if you get a chance.

Last night I sold my soul to the devil but thats another story.
