After reading the various threads and recognising a definite split between the those who believe in the audible effects of various tweaks and un measurable (at present) but audible differences between different materials; animal, vegetable and mineral, set against those who only believe the effects of what can be measured and quantified. I thought it would be of interest, (possibly only to me) to get an idea of how the split pans out on other ideas and concepts. I have put together a list of headings of some relevance to my life; feel free to add to it but attempt to avoid the banal. A brief line or two to convey your thoughts on each, or a more profound explanation of your ideas if you desire.

    Thanks

Is there a God ? if yes then what is it.

Yes, for me God is the mind of the universe - love - but not a personal God except in so far as the Universal God inspires extraordinary acts from individual humans.

Homeopathy, does it work or not ?

Not for me, other than its placebo effect (which is in itself not to be sneezed at)

    Dousing ?

Works. I assume via the 'amplified' sensitivity of individuals to the presence of water, etc.

    Healing;
    Spiritual
    Reiki, and others
    Distance Healing

They can have a positive effect. But not via the healing power of an Egyptian spirit guide or the spirit of my late Aunty Betty.

    Psychic phenomenon

Certainly occur but never reliably enough to prove.

The effect of Prayer, is there one ?

    Possibly, see healing above

    Is there life after death

I'll worry about that one when I'm dead.

    Have we a sole

    Don't know.

Can a building or place contain a perceivable energy, positive or negative

Don't know but certainly transitory if it exists.

    Is there a God?

I don't know, and nor does aanyone else

Homeopathy, does it work or not ?

    Nope.

    Dousing ?

    Nope.

    Healing;
    Spiritual
    Reiki, and others
    Distance Healing

    Nay, nay and thrice nay!

    Psychic phenomenon

    Unproven, but probably non-existent.

The effect of Prayer, is there one ?

    Nope.

    Is there life after death?

I don't know, and nor does anyone else.

Can a building or place contain a perceivable energy, positive or negative?

I doubt it, but physical surroundings (cold, dark, etc) can certainly have an effect on one's mood.

    Have we a sole?

I have two soles (and two heels).

You either have faith or you are a realist. I live in the latter camp. Faith is nothing but a crutch for those unable to deal with reality. Anti Depressants are usually considerably less expensive and harmful in the long term.

Is there a God ? if yes then what is it.

    No.

Homeopathy, does it work or not ?

It seems to work for some people. Even if it is just a placebo thing who gives a damn if it makes you feel better. Never tried it mind :D.

    Dousing ?

Probably not, although my Mum had a go and was convinced - mind you, she is mad.

    Same answer as to homeopathy

    Psychic phenomenon

    Not for me.

The effect of Prayer, is there one ?

Not for me, but not something I've really ever tried, although I have tried 'hoping' on occasion, but not in a spiritual way, more in a lottery ticket way.

    Is there life after death

There is for those who aren't dead yet.

    Have we a sole

No, but we have characters, which is shallower but still a good thing.

Can a building or place contain a perceivable energy, positive or negative

I have felt maybe one or two places I've visited had a certain something unusual about them, but the perception is probably a personal one rather than common to all.

Is there a God ? if yes then what is it.

I don't know. I remain to be convinced one way or the other.

I think its a very personal relationship.

Homeopathy, does it work or not ?

I don't know, I have never tried it.

    Dousing ?

    Yes.

    Healing;
    Spiritual
    Reiki, and others
    Distance Healing

Again, I have never tried it so I don't know.

    Psychic phenomenon

IMO there have been far to many reported incidences for them all to be false..

    eg famous local one

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/shropshire/features/halloween/halloween_wem.shtml

The effect of Prayer, is there one ?

An entirely personal thing, if you beleive I'm i'm sure it gives enormous comfort etc, but I'm no expert.

    Is there life after death

Just recently I have begun to feel sure there must be. OUr lives (or certainly MY life!) is/are far too meaningless otherwise!

    Have we a sole

    I don't know.

Can a building or place contain a perceivable energy, positive or negative

I suspect that they can, yes.

Is there a God ? if yes then what is it. not in the religous sense, maybe there's some unknown sciencey type force that glues everything toegether but it aint sentinent.

Homeopathy, does it work or not ? the compounds do nothing, though the act of receiving treatment more than likely does.

    Dousing ? yeh right

    Healing;
Spiritual, if you believe it works it can work
    Reiki, and others etc
    Distance Healing etc

    Psychic phenomenon

The effect of Prayer, is there one ?

Is there life after death, no

    Have we a sole,no

Can a building or place contain a perceivable energy, positive or negative, no, but there are sick buildings.

So I wander into a house party at uni maybe 20 odd years ago...as you do. I don't know anyone there and sit down with my bottle of plonk and a pint glass. I'm trying to look as sophisticated as I can in the vain hope that some poor female finds me windswept and interesting.

In the far end of the room a handful of odd folks are and huddled around a makeshift Ouija board giggling like the juveniles they are! I am chatting away with some other folks when one of the Ouija players asks me to join in. I say I'll give it a miss but they insist and say that 'the board is asking me to play'. I think this is all highly irregular and flippantly ask who they think they are speaking to. They duly ask the board, which then sets about spelling out the name of my best mate who shot himself to death when we were sixteen.

None of these folks had ever met me before and couldn't have known. Like I say....highly irregular!

For the record I believe in very little.....well apart from dancing out the back porch in the nip when there's a full moon.

Is there a god ? No. There's zero evidence to suggest that a divine creator in any form exists so why invent one ?. Like the fairytales that lie at the base of any religion, cult or belief system. They are all just ideas and constructs of the human mind.

I won't even comment on the other stuff

No Joel the blank was intentional. There's no missing "r" - it's two words.

Is there a god? I believe so; a personal God who is the Creator of all things, and with whom it is possible to have a relationship.

Homeopathy, does it work or not? I'm not sure, but the existence of a homeopathy hospital in London, funded by the nhs, would seem to indicate that there are benefits to be derived from it.

Dousing? It appears to work, but I would not know how or why.

    Healing;
    Spiritual
    Reiki, and others
    Distance Healing
    I don't think so.

Psychic phenomenon: Phenomena seem to exist, but their source may be purely psychological.

The effect of Prayer, is there one? Yes.

Is there life after death? I believe that death ends conscious existence, and that hope for future life depends on resurrection by God.

Have we a sole [soul]? No. Each of us is a soul.

Can a building or place contain a perceivable energy, positive or negative? I don't believe so.

A good thread although some have disobeyed orders and haven't avoided the banal.
