Hi,

Been running a krell kav250a and krc-3 with my proac d28's and have decided its time for a change. Borrowed a shot of the old mans M3 and thought it was alright but doesn't tick all the boxes for me. Imaging compared to the Krells is nowhere near. Bottom end is nice and full but not tight enough for me. Missing the slam/punch factor of Krell. Mid range is superb but treble is quite flat and in the background. (noticably with the cymbals.). Also found that with rock music from today it sounds a bit muddled and bland when the guitars are rocking. M3 doesn't seem to like 'busy' music. Been thinking about changing to an FPB 600 and ARC ls25/ls5/ls15. Should give the bass a kick in the pants and, silky smoth mid range and take away the slightly forward/harshness in the treble in the current setup i have. If anyones got something else to suggest then lets hear it.:) Budget will be crica £4 - 4.5k for pre & pwr although i'm not against an integrated. Not my 1st choice though.

Ta.

Hi, I've been running an MF M3 for a couple of years. About a year ago John Sampson serviced it for me, fitted new valves and also upgraded the power supply. Result tighter bass and copes effortlessly with busy passages of music. From memory it cost about £400. If you otherwise like the M3 pehaps it is worth having a word with John, he also offers an upgrade to some of the other components that apparently improve imaging, though through the PMC OB1s I use I've always found the imaging to be very good; there again I have not had chance to compare with the Krell gear!

Haha, CSL? Might have to get a new rack for that one.;)

Cheers robn. I sent an email to him yesterday about it so hopefully should hear back from him soon enough. Quite fancy a shot of the AMS35i as looks quite tastey but the rrp's a bit mental. Yes, the imaging with the Krell's was in a different league i thought. I could sit in my chair blindfolded then walk up to the wall 'pin the tail on the donkey' style and put a pin on the wall for every tom at the start of 'Time' from Dark Side of the Moon.

if you deal with j.s. make sure that he warratees his work, m.f. will not touch under no circumstances his work done to any of their items at any cost,
nando.

Seems then that MF are in defensive mode and missing a trick here. I've not heard of his work causing any problems but in the event that it did MF could offer a profitable repair and restore service. It is hard to avoid wondering whether the MF upgrade service was launched as part of MF's reaction to John Sampson's success.

possibly yes, if you were a manufacturer and someone wants to modifie your products then how would you react? and do you blame them, the repair cost would be astronomical, so why not go trough via manufacturer? the chice is there for the individual to make, takes your pick and follow your choice, do not blame the maker after,
nando.

chris let's borrow dev's for a test,:)
nando.

I don't have an M3, but if I did no one would borrow it:).

Anyway, your comments about warranty apply to any manufacturer. This is the main reason I wouldn't want to modify an expensive product. In any case, if there are any issues would JS himself not sort them out?

I take it JS and MF didn't part company on amicable terms.

Look, I know we've been down the spelling and grammar road recently but Nando - please, its a warranty and a guarrantee not a warrantee. Minor point but I'm fussy!

manufacturers warrenty and guarrantee differ in the sense that a dealer can offer his or her own guarantte, manufacturers warrety is to both customers and dealers as stated in their terms and conditions, if i wish to offer, for example a 5 year guarrantee it is on my head, not on the manufacturer, that is the dif. between the two,
nando.

OOh, now youre just doing it to rile me, aren't you?

(Manufacturers')

BTW, I love your brand loyalty. I would expect nothing else.

now would i do that, meerkat.com not nando.com ,
where has it all gone?

it is based on customer service, on intuition and how you like to offer service to people that want to purchase goods from you, then you can as a dealer extend the warrantee of the product, brand loyalty depends very much on the manufacture or distributor towards you, if you have a fulcrom between both then loyalty is a must,
i think that personal after sales service is more important than the profit,
nando. now to my jakuuzzy,
