I'm unsure why I've recieved a notification not having posted on this forum for longer than I can remember.

I can see the originality and drama in this piece but the atonalism ( if that's what it is?) had my nerves standing on edge.

I enjoy this performance but the one I really preferred was with Alfred Brendel. Sadly I can't track it down and no longer have the original LP.

The performance of this at Princess Diana's funeral I thought the most dramatic but all the recordings I've dug up of that event have very bad sound.

I still have the orginal LP of Das Lied von der Erde under Bruno Walter with Kathleen Ferrier but find it reduces me to such a blubbering mess once a year is the most often I can cope with it.
In the meantime Mr Bernstien's approach does well enough although the sonics of this recording aren't much.
