Why you're not allowed to park next to fire hydrants...

And may I remind you of what you said earlier:

I think the saying is "hoisted by one's own petard"
I wasn't itching to get past him, unlike you: I was merely observing some pretty incompetant driving..

So that's what you infer from:

Btw, why is it that whenever I see one (a BMW) I'm stuck behind it at 30mph as soon as the road gets twisty? And why do they always accelerate up to whatever the speed limit is as soon as it gets straight so you can only overtake illegally?
It doesn't say I was itching to get past, just annoyed that the car in front was holding me up, then not allowing me to overtake! I don't usually exceed the national speed limit by any more than 10%+2 - that's probably why I have no points.. (Apart from on the bike of course :D)
FWIW, I've been stuck behind a number of "sports" cars, including TTs, which exhibit this same behaviour.
It shows that the driver only bought the car so that it makes them look good, not for the joy of driving it!

This is my dads car, I want to put a sticker on it on the back saying "OI! BMW Driver you can buy this car the interest you pay each year on that BMW alone"

He paid £1600 for it three years ago, the picture was taken two weeks ago and I reckon its still got 5 years in it :)

The only probem with it is the suspension is crap in the back, the engine is not the smoothest either but it can easily overtake anything including unspecting BMW drivers :p

as a card carrying bmw driver (320D + sports sus + 17" + colour coded handles etc), and an ex escort owner - i can state that A) my escort was a pile of shite, and B) My beemer is fun to drive, i like the way it looks and best of all....the company pays for it:)

not sure what to get next (18 months time) - i really dont like the look of the new 3 series, but I suspect the new 330D when it comes out will be a corker.

Maybe a lexus (if they update the is range), or maybe a higher end Honda (Ive always liked Hondas (espec integras)).

The only bad thing I can say about the beemas Ive had is that the seats are a bit shite.

Agreed, at long last. Particularly in the case of Audi TTs, which I hear are pretty boring to drive. Having been a back seat passenger in one once, I would also say that they have bugger-all headroom. All in all, a triumph of "style" over substance.

Yep but my point was if you don't pay for it you're paying a lot of money for somthing that just gets you from A to B when you can instead spend that money on seeing the world, having flashy nights out etc.

Oh indicators work on Escorts too :D

The style bit you may have a point if you like that kind of thing but where we live you can't really have fun driving as you have to use the break as much as the throttle. Some people just like zero image cars to make a point.

Its called inverted snobbery :D

Gotta admit, BMW's are good cars, and fun to drive. And Audi TT's are w@nk. The 350Z is a proper sports car.

We'd better get a room :D
I also like to get from A to B in style and have some fun doing it - though we may differ about what style is (frinstance I used to love freaking out Alfa drivers with my old 1.3 Skoda Favorit estate - that was a foot-flat-on-the-floor-at-all-times car, had to be as there was very little acceleration - I'd lose them on the twisties and they'd catch up at the end of a straight. And I love my battered Landy with it's 40mph top speed...)
And yes, the TT is particularly bland to drive - it reminds me of a Honda VFR in that it seems to go very well, but then you realise you're actually asleep.
However, the engine's pretty good - my Octavia's got it and it does have some oomph. But, as soon as the guarantee's run out I shall have it chipped to 205bhp/290lbft (only £500!!!). Does go through tyres though, a set of Pirelli P6000s lasts about 10k!

Get a midi system, sell your hi-fi, and go out on the town, sir.

But people don't see my HIFI and its not exactly good for your image is it? :D

BMWs are all fine if you have some where to drive them thats not a traffic jam on the Princess Parkway. :)

You know this is just banter :)

You'll be lucky to get 290 lb ft of torque without very heavy mods, and if you do, you'll have more than 205 bhp, unless your driving a TDI.

Most of the chipped Octavia vRS's push out about 240 lb ft at the most without heavier mods... we are talking big turbo's here... and if you do that you'd get upwards of 300 bhp.

Can that chasis handle that kind of power?

Well I'm sure one tuning company (might be AMD) has a 450 bhp Octavia vRS, so I'd say, with some modifications, yes it can.

240lb/ft is fine by me - my bike only puts out 85! (which is why it tends to stomp on modern sports 600s up to 70mph..)
With that sort of extra grunt would it be of the order of 7 secs to 60?

I know Bike mag recently did a feature on cars for bikers to watch out for on twisty roads and the VRs was one of them!

As much as I hate flash cars thats actually rather nice, it dosn't look too flashy either so people will just think you're driving a Toyota Carina rather than a Lexus perfect :D
