woken up this morning...

yeah - don't think anyone was hurt - a couple of ambulances arrived - but i didn't see anything...

yep - I took the pics...was almost natural instinct when I left the house to see what the noise was...reminded me of that scene in amercan beauty when the young couple are lying in bed and they hear the girls dad get shot...total shock!

Very good pictures, you could probably sell some of those to the press! What the hell was in that vehicle?

Not suprised you were shocked, I find being woken up by my kids traumatic enough.

I've been in touch and left voice messages - seems that no ones around at 7:30 in the morning...! ho hum!

The latest news on BBC says that a man was killed in the explosion - welding gear exploded! So sad.
yeah, poor guy - was a local bloke too...

just came back and spoken to the police and the photographer of a local rag - he's spoken to them and they'll most likely use one of my pics on monday...

just came off the phone of a local rag - The Northern Echo and they're gonna give me 100 notes for 3 or 4 pics in mondays edition...

not bad!

I once saw a (foreign I think, b&w) film about a penniless photographer who after seeing how well the guy who took that famous pic of the Hindenburg did, decided to blow up a famous local landmark so that he could take a pic at the crucial moment and sell the pic for loads. Unfortunately his timing was out and he spent ages standing with his tripod and camera whilst nothing happened, and as he packed up and turned away to go home, it blew.

At least that's how I remember it, it was along time ago.

yeah, latest update seems to be that the driver stopped off at the papershop - drove off and lit a cigarette - presumably there was a leak in one of the cylinders...

road will be closed for about 24 hours...

You've reminded me I've a film I've not had developed years after shooting it!

I had a similar thing happen a few years back.
Staying at my ex's house there was a bang iin the early hours which was enough to make we open my eyes. I then noticed the flames through the curtains. First reaction was grab the camera too!

I had black and white film loaded so not sure how the flames would have came out. The film is still sat in the fridge!

you should have acted quicker... :)
I've just came off the phone and the papers have said they'd give me a total of 175 quid for my pics...I've let the local weardale papers have them for free as they're only small!

Sad about the fella getting killed.

I have to say that some of those photos are really excellent though (feel guilty for saying it!).

yeah, its the first time that i've been in that kind of situation - but it felt natural to take photos (in a hobbyist) but on a moral grounding - maybe thats different...have you any views..?
