For those of you with real veneer stuff, there are somthings you can do to keep them nice.

They hate sunlight, so keep out of the sun.

There is a product called wood food which is great, stops it drying out, lubricates, feeds and enhances grain.

Avoid furniture sprays, avoid silicone, to wax, use only natural beeswax, its the best.

You may also wash gently with woodsoap, squeezed out cloth, lint free to avoid bits, dry quick, warm water.

Also, you can oil, there may be special ones like linseed which is sticky, and teak oil too, check up on these first, but cold pressed olive and other cold pressed hi quality oils like grapeseed and sunflower are excellent too.

Lord Sheraton 'Liquid Gold'

I use a product made by Lord Sheraton and called 'Liquid Gold' on my LP12 plinth. It really does bring out the grain of the wood brilliantly. Basically it is oil based ( Apparently it contains oil of Cedar ), you paint it on , leave for an hour to soak and then polish off the excess. It also removes old wax and polish at the same time, and so the first time i used it i did it twice. I found that the first time i used it it slightly darkened the wood of my plinth , luckily the effect was very subtle and i preffered the new, slightly darker, shade. This stuff leaves behind a lovely shiny, and importantly Anti-Static finish that lasts for months. Getting the fluid onto the Stainless steel top plate is almost unavoidable, so now I clean the top plate with he same stuff and it leaves behind a great ( uniform, stain free) finish on that too, bargain :) .
