Chaps, bit of a problem here. I've ordered a plasma TV but obviously don't want to run my 360/DVD through the plasma speakers, which are rubbish. However, I want to make full use of crispy 1080P visuals via HDMI. I have a problem though - I've run out of phono inputs on the BAT and would rather not have to buy a new preamp. I cannot use Phono>XLR adapters, because the power amp only has phono inputs and the BAT does not convert XLR inputs to unbalanced output (an unfortunate oversight).

So aside from buying a new pre, using a splitter that seriously degrades sound quality, or buying a power amp with RCA & XLR inputs, is there anything I can do?

Incidentally, have any of you noticed a time lag between audio/screen sync, if using a Toslink or Analogue audio connection in conjuction with the HDMI cable? I don't want to fire my gun and hear the bullet fly out of the barrell two seconds later.

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks,
DT

Incidentally, does anyone know if the 360 can downsample dolby 5.1 to 16/44 LPCM for the Toslink output??

Connecting my Xbox into my HiFi AV setup is/was a complete and utter nightmare.

I am not overly happy with it now !

I have had to make a compromise on the sound to get the pic, but in reverse I could compromise the pic to get the sound.

Try as I might could not get it hooked up like I wanted !

I use the Toslink out in conjunction with component video hi def output without any problem.

Cool. I have the component/VGA block, but the max output is 1080i and obviously doesn't make use of HD-DVD or 1080p compatible games (all two of them!)

I think, horror of horrors, I'm going to pursue the phono splitter route. Very yuk, but get's the job done for a fiver.

Sure is - level 1 boss.

Great game, though I probably should change my avatar now. Had the same one for about two years....

although as rare as rocking horse s**t, you could opt ofr an exposure III expander. It expands any input off of the pre without major sound degradation.

I used one many years ago, when I had an exposure VII pre with only three inputs, one of which was for the TT. The sound was excellent IMHO.

It may not solve everything but much better than a splitter.

Would other brands possibly do an expander such as the exposure, I do not know, but maybe worth searching around.

Although my 360 is not connected to a 5.1 amp, it sounds utterly superb when connected to my exposure kit.

Have fun.

I have managed to locate an "active" splitter from TVcables that boosts the signal and switches it electronically. I'm sure it will add some kind of distortion to the signal, but it's better than the passive variety (albeit at an increased price - £60).
