This follows the discussion about FFRC, and my attempts to improve on its performance. I consider the insulation to be the weak area.
Ingredients required to make approx 2 x 2.5m stereo lengths.
1 roll of 0.7mm enamelled copper wire cost approx £5
5m of polypropylene cord [orange]
4 red, 4 black, beryllium copper 4mm banana plugs
Fix a small hook to an immovable object, secure a second into a drill chuck.
Thread a loop of wire about 3m long between the hooks and secure at the drill end.
Madly spin the two cores together until the length is reduced to about 2.5m.
Carefully release the wire as it will try to impale you as it unwinds a little.
Repeat this twelve times.
Then take 3 of these twisted pairs and twist them together tightly enough to so they hold together when released.
You will need to carefully cut the wire from the fixed hook. At this point it worth label up the three positive and the three negatives of this rope.
Repeat this four times.
Take the orange cord and two of the wire ropes and plait the three together loosely.
Using a multimetre identify the positive ends and the negative ends
Terminate the wire ends with the banana plugs.
Stick it in your system and leave to settle down .
This cable has not got the sharp top end of my FFRC , but hasa smothness, neutrality, with better bass and imaging, trade off's that I can accept.
