"It's like the blacks"? You talk like "black" people should be considered in the singular. You sound like someone from the early 70's.

Characterising "blacks" as a contigous group who resent "whites" for stuff that "shouldn't have happened but did" is simpleminded to say the least. If this were the case then cornish, scottish, english, irish, welsh - all the same no differences in social or cultural experiences and opinions cos they're all "white".

Before any modern immigration took place the British Isles was already a well blended mixture of several races : Angles, Saxons, Vikings, French, various Celts, Britons, Jews, Romans, to name a few. To my mind it's one of the strengths of the United Kingdom and one of many reasons why racism is groundless, unless skin colour is the big dividing factor. If so why?

It might make you feel unconfortable but unfortunately society and humanity is a bit more complex than you give it credit for (unless you're Michael Howard of course).

I'm not moaning a bout it, or giving an opinion, just clearing up the why as to why most modern scots aren't that keen on the English, as I have stated I have many friends who are English, and I feel my Scottish countrymen don't give the ordinary people the benefit of the doubt, and TBH that is their loss.

Fair enough. As a cross-bred Scots/Irish/English mongrel I love everyone, with the possible exception of Jeremy Clarkson.

I dig Jim Naughtie, he's a smart guy. If you listen to the Today prog you'd realise that question is largely irrelevant.

To be honest, I'm usually only half-wake when Today is on (or in a mad panic to leave the house on time). Naughtie is good, though. And sometimes there's the dulcet tones of Charlotte Green reading the news to put me in a good mood for the rest of the day.

It's on the Home Service, just along the dial from the Light Programme.
 
I'll tune into this thanks. Mind you can I get it on DAB?, Also is it on FM or MW or LW I may be able to get it in the car. Next to light porgrammes doesn't help me much as I haven't seen an old tuner dial for years :)

Erm, why? What else should we call them? Coloureds, negros, luminosity challenged? It wasn't meant in a racist way, but can you see where I'm coming from? I mean, the slave/triangular trade etc is all stuff that happened way back when. Britain hasn't been blameless over the last century either, but America has a lot more to answer for re racial tension. If you go to somewhere like Reading you'll find the afro population (whatever the PC term is these days) are FAR more racist to whites than the other way round - the whole sucking-lips-agaist-teeth thing being my biggest annoyance. I'm glad to be out of that town to be honest.

I'm not saying I'm perfect, but being INTENTIONALLY racist isn't something I hold with either, so anything that can be taken that way in what I've said here isn't meant that way from me. I mean, let's face it, I've been up against prejudice all my life re the eyesight thing (being called a cabbage or whathaveyou or being jeered at etc when young soon sets you straight!) so why would I want to pass that on? It's never worth it.

Besides, white racists are a joke - whites are in the minority in the big wide world - white power? Do me a favour!
