If you don't want to read them, then don't.
It's when they spread into other threads that action needs to be taken

One cable mega-thread in it's own section so that people can slag each other off to their hearts content, and all other cable related stuff to be banned from everywhere else.

(as per Bottlenecks suggestion in another, erm, cable thread.)

I've added a poll to this thread. Essentially the mod. team are worn down by the constant cable wars currently going on.

We've come up with three options:

    1. We can ban all discussion of cables

    2. We can merge all discussion of cables into one thread, and then as these things always go bad, let the protaganists get on with it. We don't want to spend hours moderating it.

    3. We have thought of giving each camp a room, that would be moderated by someone of each persuasion, so for instance, SM could moderate the subjectivist room, and Zanash the believers room.

It's up to you, we'll do what the poll suggests. It's open until 3.50 next Friday.

If we vote for oppo 2, can we call anybody we disagree with, a deaf plonker, or a jolly bad egg; that sort of thing?

    What fun!

If we can, I'm gonna vote for 2.

    Graham.

In the interest of maintaining the objectivity of ZG as a forum please remove all votes from anyone with a financial interest in the discussions continuing.

But ZG is supposed to be a Hifi forum not a grooming ground for home brew wire salesmen.

I thought Zg was supposed to be for the exchange of ideas and reasonable debate?

AS I've said before I was very glad to be given zanash's name when I first joined as I wanted to experiment with cables built at a reasonable cost.

    Maybe others do too...

Sometimes it is useful to know of products and services available through the forum, from fellow enthusiasts?

"What should we do about cable threads?"

I don't know......ban sweeping statements, baiting posts and inflammatory comments :)?

    should crack it........;)

edit; we had in effect the 3rd option I thought

ie what "positive effects......cables" etc but what a surprise it got gate crashed!

The merging option seems the best compromise, providing mods are prepared to be rigorous about stopping the emergence of cable rants in other threads. I've seen this approach effectively applied elsewhere.

Call me crazy but it appears to me that this whole debate is somehow geared torwards Zanash's efforts in cables and those that would love to see him fail.
So he sells cables. Big deal. He is entitled to his opinion. I don't agree with some of his conclusions about silver vs copper conductors but he is entitled to make a living from his efforts.
When I started posting here I was taken to task by the Zanash crowd for asking how copper compared to silver. Actually his contingency of customers jumped all over me, snide remarks and all. I too asked for a challenge of his silver cables against my reference copper cables. They just ingnored me. Couldn't understand why now I do. We [ our audio club ] offered to listen to his cable and compare iot to a ref. copper version. I'm still waiting. Theres something personal going on here with Zanashs crowd and some others, you would think its a soccer match all rooting for their favorite team and town. and IMHO it should STOP.
He or his foes do not have to prove anything with double blind tests or the like. If you do not believe in his works or philosophy don't buy his product. Just to bad mouth him or the cable issue to affect his business is not a cool thing to do. Live and let live.

I think there needs to be common sense in these threads. Talking about £50,000 cables is just silly but it dosn't do any harm if people wish to discuss it.

its simple, anyone who takes part in the cable threads should expect them to get heated and out of the AUP rules.

all cable threads should live in one area, one section for pro, one section for against, and anyone who dares to post in the competitive viewpoint puts themself up for ridicule and abuse.

alls fair in love and war, but thertes no reason why it should pollute all areas of the site.

makes no difference to me, im a 'show all new posts' kinda guy.
