Are there any dealers near Paddington station or Barbican who have a show roon and good stuff to hear?
Tomorrow afternoon I'll be around not knowing what to do.

I know Paddington very very well..

Id say Walrus. Get a taxi, it's a bit of a bitch to find if you don't know where it is.

It's only 5 minutes by cab.

Another good one - within walking distance - or 1-2 stops on the tube there's the vinyl music shops at notting hill.

A better way to spend a little time IMO.

Maybe you're right. Especially before going to a concert hearing hifi somewhere is not really a good thing. ;)

.....aaaannddd there are 3 vinyl shops right next door to each other at nottinghill - one of them does solely classical :)

SSB showed me some better ones in the general vicinity once, but these suckers are right at the tube stop, you can't go wrong.

Grahams is the nearest to Barbican - either £7/8 in a cab, or a 141/76/21 bus.

Give them a ring first if you want to listen properly 0207 226 5500

Cheers!

What about KJWestOne? They're about 15 minutes walk from Marble Arch/Bond Street station. Very nice premises and the guys there are very helpful/friendly.

There's also Thomas Heinitz
35 Moscow Road
Notting Hil
Tel: 020 7229 2077

Also the cornflake shop, just off totenham court road. Various branches of sevonoaks dotted around.

Considering how big London is, there is very little in the way of quality hifi shops, isn't there? Of all the ones mentioned, I think only Walrus interests me.

Thank you all,

Yesterday I was at Walrus and relaxed a bit.
Very nice to meet and to conversate with Les.

I decided at the last moment, that I didn't want to stand up the whole afternoon. Also I'm not willing to buy any more vinyl. Actually I'm reducing my collection.
I'll keep in mind the other addresses for another time.

Agreed

but it's not until you live in another part of the world that you realize how barren the country is of hifi shops per se!!

The whole of the north-east for example only has one decent shop (newcastle, sunderland, durham, washington etc)

I think it's because we're so busy paying out for enormous mortgages, congestion charges, Olympics we don't want, massive council taxes and general living costs, that we can ill afford the spurious luxury that is a high-end hi-fi system.

And I doubt many of us non invesment bankers have properties large enough to house decent audiophile speakers in anyway (at least in a domestically balanced manner). My system takes up a third of the living room :(

I know waht you mean - most modest houses (especially up north) - the living rooms are tiny...luckily the house we're moving into the back end of next week has the dining room / living room wall knocked into one room and while my lady wants a dining table (I've said no) - I just wanna enjoy the big open environment... that with the fact that it's a semi detached and a hallway and stairs between us and the neighbours - the music will (hopefully!) sing!

Its also shows the state of the 2-channel audio market in general. Very few quality dealers says a lot.

"2-channel audio" is doing just fine Baudrillard, as long as it's downloaded, compressed and then squeezed out of an iPod :(
