Depends what I'm eating.

White Meat or Fish - Casa Marin Sauvignon Gris

Red Meat - Valdivieso Caballo Loco

Take Away etc - Fullers Golden Pride or Carlsberg Elephant beer (though I can't find this anywhere now).

Late Night Tipple - Woodford Reserve Bourbon

David, I was an OND Horticulture student 1986- (you would have been middle year by then?) I was lured into the big wide world during my year in the industry so never completed the course. This made my life much more difficult in my '30s!

Balmy days

Hmmmmm.....

Yes we lost a student from the middlle year. He never came back.

I left hort totally.

No I'm a consultant, darling! Stopped climbing about five years ago, stopped employing people, never looked back!

I'd have to go along with Flann O'Brien, when he wrote: "a pint of plain is your only man." Guinness was what he meant, of course. In Dublin, they have a very civilised custom of going for a pint in the late afternoon, on the way home from work or shopping. It puts a nice lining on the stomach to prepare it for the evening meal. Of course, there's always a danger that "going in for the one" will turn into an all-nighter (or worse), depending on who you bump into. It's a while since I was in Dublin, but I hear rumours that Guinness are developing a pint which can be drawn instantly (rather than in stages, as hitherto, leaving time for the head to settle). This is disturbing news. Anyway, for a more serious drink, my choice has always been Paddy, a brand of Irish whiskey distilled in Cork. This is rather hard to come by in Britain. The only reliable source of it I know is a petrol station on the A40 in Pembrokeshire, just past Narberth going west. I'd be glad to hear of other sightings.

Tullamore is one of my favourite places, and some of my distant ancestors come from that area. It's a fairly large town, but complete strangers stop and talk to you in the street, so that you have to allow extra time if you're going somewhere on foot. If you're ever there, call into the Tullamore Court for a drink in the evening. Tullamore Dew whiskey is fine, but I don't think I've ever seen that over here in England. They sell plenty of it on the Stena Europe ferry from Fishguard to Rosslare, and I generally pick up a bottle. What I do miss is, in the old days of duty-free, the litre bottles of Paddy they used to sell at Dublin airport at quite reasonable prices. They were export strength, about 43% ABV instead of the usual 40%.
