I am thinking about adding a few tweaks to my system ,and to start I was going to make a platform for my cd player.I was wondering if anyone had experience of using Vibropod/cones. I recently had the opportunity to listen to a demo of some Vertex couplers and a platform which was really good but all told about 500 - 600 quid. The vibropods and cones seem to get good reviews .Any thoughts?

IXOS do some sorbothane blocks with a hollow that faces away from the component. A box of 4 is only about £20.
Very good value IMHO, although I'll probably get debunked by some smarty pants on here! Its better than being directly on glass. Have em under my phono stage.
:D :p

Thanks, I dont want to blow large sums of cash if I can get close to the same effect with alternatives but neither do I want it sitting on blocks of polystyrene.

Clearlight Audio RDC SPP Platform

if that helps, just looks good value compared to some of the options that seem to hover around double this price.

Sorry Smeagol I meant the IXOS stuff, but thanks for that other site its got a few interesting products.I have thought about something along the lines of aSymposium roller block or the Final ones that used to exist dont know still get made.

I could get a turntable for that..... I have found a french dealer who does Symposium stuff and I have access to some nice burr hardwoods so I thought I could create something. The Vibropods etc seem not too expensive especially if I buy in US but the Clearlight is I think not too bad value.

Its Ok its just a signature thats required the pain comes later.
Back to interesting stuff, My thoughts were to panelas of Burr Elm or one panel with a panel of MDF bonded with a silicon type material.Underneath would be vibropods with cones under the kit. This is turning into a diy thread?!

You seem confused about what you're trying to do.

The vertex couplers connect your object strongly to the granite platform (small points of contact = high pressure). This is the same as spikes do for speakers to the floor (strongly couple speaker to the floor).

Sorbothane blocks do the opposite, introducing mechanical movement between device and platform.

Which are you trying to achieve?

At £21.53 (Stone Audio) they have to be worth a whirl. Will try a set myself, even though I think I'm well set up already.

It was isolation I was trying to achieve but the couplers I saw were not connected to anything they sat upright on the base, cant remember its name, granite with a surround. I know this because we moved them to different points of support on the cd player. Hence the reason I wanted to create a platform with cones on top if that makes sense.

I've been doing much the same ......

pm me you want some ideas ..or the things that have worked for me

So, so you try to absorb vibes....or do you dissipate?!?

There is no clear answer in my experience.

I tend to favour dissipation myself though.

The first thing to do...if it was me.....is to attach the kit to some decent mass. Granite slab chopping blocks serve well for this. Then use spikes to isolate from the rest of the kit. (i'm sure I shall be told off for using that expression there)

The thng to do though, is to experiment and see what works best for you.

Dissipate. Inverted cones underneath a TT, on a hard, rigid surface such as tiles or a mineral slab- glass not good unless evenly supported on a firm surface. The denser the cone material, the better. Brass is good, aluminium ok.

Under electronic components, cones pointing upwards, on light but rigid support. CD players, like TTs, must be levelled. Use large washers/coins to level. Place cones at extremities as far as possible, taking account of internal mass distribution (transformer position).

No sorbothane, anywhere. Wonderful stuff, but yet to find a use for it, except under a laptop.
