It's here!

A lovely, classy Jaguar..

I don't think a lot of people are aware of the blistering performance of the aluminium XJ in the 'r' guise..

" But the most powerful of the new XJs is the XJR, whose supercharged 400bhp engine provides genuine supercar performance: 0-60mph in 5sec dead and a top speed that would top 170mph were it not for electronic intervention. This is Porsche 911 performance in a four-door saloon. It costs £58,500. "

I personally love Jaguar - they make individual looking cars that don't have that ''me too, molded in a wind tunnel'' samey-ness about them that is so prevelant. History and performance, I just love em.

Since doing ( and failing BTW) the advance drivers cousre I haven't listened to a radio in a car (whilst on my own) so thats a bit of a waste...

I've not used mine much since doing mine. Too much info from engine and tyres to miss out on!

But on motorway runs I do... new car is rather quieter (esp on goodyear excellence - very quiet tyres!) and it's almost worthwhile.

The Lexus looks very classy but the interior looks bland. The Jag looks like a lovely place to be but has an cigar in hand image problem.

The Audi's dashboard reminds me of an early 90's Renault Clio.

Out out the lot the Jag easily has the most class but I like the clean look of the Lexus.

Likewise....

.....last para with you 100%

All the xj(s), since th e80s anyway have had that grace, pace and performance....just the way they do stuff.....effortlessly.

I saw XJR (I think) intown a year or so ago.....totally muted engine even watching it from the back through the town....and just silky smooth. :):)

horses for courses but the lexus looks less button festooned to me than the others.
one of the best things about my lexus was the flouro dash that just appeared when you switched it on.

Agreed. I like a nice simple clinical ergonomical interior. Hate button festooned.

I quite like the look of those, I saw a sporty version of one just the other day that I really liked. Are they expensive to run?

Depends on which sporty version you saw...

There's the Galant Sport, which is a regular 2.0 or 2.5 with different bumpers and side skirts, 17" wheels and different suspension setup, 3 spoke momo wheel and a few less toys (no cruise for example). These are no different to run from a normal galant (meaning 30-35mpg, good reliability, crap dealers). This is probably what you saw.

Then there's the VR4. This is 280bhp twin-turbo V6, with the 4wd system and active yaw control out of the EVO. These will give about 17mpg, require servicing every 4500 miles and eat tyres, brakes, auto fluid and engine oil. They are NOT cheap to run.

As you guy like Jaguar styling what do think of this?
I was a huge Jaguar fan until Ford bought them, yes I'm biased:(.

Love the engine start knob!

The instruments are quirky....but it works for me .......except the orange speedo'.

"require servicing every 4500 miles "

bit severe Isaac?!

why SO often?

280hp isn't hta out of the way these days.

that ferrari - screams speed.

My first thought after ''like the carbon fibre'' was...

'that looks REALLY f**king uncomfortable..'

depnds what you want.

What I love about Lexus is that they include all the bits/pieces (like an Ipod doc for example) as standard even on base models. Reliability is awesome aswell.

The audi interior above does nothing for me at all, it looks really 1980's to me.

As a place to sit and drive, I'd pick the Jag. Some Lexus reliability and FOC 'toys' would be welcome though :)

Yep, that was it, it had a red badge on the back that probably said VR4 (sounded familiar when you mentioned it) and as far as I recall two bloody great fat exhaust pipes, one on either side. Probably not the sensible family motor I need then :D.

Standard AYC system service interval - the EVO have the same.

280bhp was quite a lot in 1996, especially from a 2.5. It's quite capable of destroying anything but group IV or V synthetic oils (mobil 1 and other "fully synthetic" oils are typically group III) in that time. Other similar cars require similar service intervals: Skyline GTR, Legacy GT-B, etc.
