Lathed v Standard CDs - listen and decide

I could not tell them apart on my pc system (some £60 active speakers, but they're not bad).

Next time though (for us slow broadband users) possibly smaller files as an option - e.g. first minute of track only...

Well, I've had a listen and they do seem to sound different (a bit). However, in all honesty I don't really think one is appreciably better than the other so I can't really vote.

I'll post a short 1m version of each track later for those wanting a smaller file.
 
I couldn't hear enough of a difference to express a preference, and I can't say if the only minor difference I did notice (track B sounding very slightly duller than track A) wasn't suggested by previous comments.
 
You really need to do this comparison live with a CD transport as Zanash has said. I used to own a lathe - definite difference but have gone a different route to tweak CD's

Both files are taken from a Meridian CD transport.

Why do people have to keep making excuses :confused:

Explain how doing it live would be of benefit, please.
 
Shorter files added to the 1st post for those wanting a smaller file.
 
So it looks like only 27% like the lathed version and I suppose some of those were having to plump a guess.

So maybe 2 of the 11 so far liked it?

Are we back to green pens again?
