Regarding the warm up time. It depends where you keep the lamp. If there is loads of air movement then they take ages to warm up and don't perfom properly. If it's too hot (like the end of winter and SWMBO still insists on the heating being on full) then they warm up quickly but can overheat.

I have two bottles for mine and change between the two depending on my mood.

Now thats an idea!!!! :D:D:D:D

I had a lava lamp on a time switch.
It lasted about a year then went cloudy I was not impressed and it's been packed away in my garage for a year or so now, it was a Mathmos too.

If it was exposed to bright sunlight the bottle will cloud in about 3 months - I speak from experience. It was 5 years old before it went cloudy, so I KNOW it was the sunlight that did it...

Bummer...

BTW - those Mathmos oil projectors are about £70. I want one.

Avanzato, go and get another bottle. It'll be as good as new.
Do as Dom says and keep it out of direct sunlight.

Mines 6 years old and still going strong, keeping out of sunlight is the way forward..

Lava lamps good.......... when they get going.

Plasma ball thingies also good. Touch it with one hand then holding a chain or similar in other slap your mates with it :D

Also, the fish and bubble thingies are good but loud. One of my fish is a bit wobbly though. Swims upside down only!

I must have got a duff bottle (it was the blue n' blue telstar) as it was never anywhere near sunlight. A new one is £24 on the Mathmos site though I remember last time I looked they had replacement glitter bottles and I can't find them anymore.

Mathmos seem to have a smaller range now as well, when I got mine they did a £300 Luna lamp, it was huge. God knows how long that took to get going.

As I've still got the old bottle I was thinking of making my own glitter lamp. Possible? Any tips?
