    Yes, it is a bit messy. I got the faceplate free from my cousin, a sheet metal worker and yes it is a bit scratched:(. Beggars can't be choosers after all:).

    I'm off on holidays tomorrow, so will try and polish it when I get back by the end of the month. Perhaps I can get an engraver to engrave the words Volume and Source on the plate?

    I have used Scotchbrite rubbing along one direction over the whole aluminium surface of a faceplate to polish out the scratches. Then a clear layer of lacquer will seal the aluminium. The finish is not as good as brushed aluminium commonly found on amps, but it is good enough for my DIY amps.
