Just finished my cabinets using the 12" Monitor Golds. Took an arm and a leg to finance the wood and sundries but well worth it in the end.

Good work Jim. They look great.

It seems that Speedysteve has some competition.:)

Thanks i don't think mine would be quite as good as Speedysteve's especially in the bass as his are 15" but mine do pack a thump when there is deep bass.

The finish looks 1st rate - what was the wood or veneer?

Are they reflex / ported or some clever folded horn going on in there?

    Any pics of the build?

Hi speedy.steve They are Ash veneer over Far Eastern ply.

They are a ported design using the Onken calculator and the black slots on the lower half of the cabs are the ports. I will get some pics of the build for you. I had to look for the slimmest baffle i could find as my small room wouldn't fit in with the wide design of Tannoy's cabinets.

I must say i am over the moon with the sound these Tannoy's produce. Had them in the loft for close on 20 years.

Someone on a forum was praising the Monitor Golds and the high price they were fetching. I wasn't sure whether mine were the Golds, so i was well pleased when i found they were. I never had them in decent cads until now and wow do they go low. Obviously not as low as your 15 inchers but stomach thumping non the less.

    Cheers Jim.

    Hi Jim,

Instead of uploading pictures here (where we have limited space), host them on sites such as flickr or photobucket etc. and link to them as MO! explained in the following link:-

I use webshots as when I tried photobucket it would fail quite often - that was some time ago though.

    Nice construction too <thumbs up>

Well it works ok. Hope thats of help speedy.steve.

As you can see with the last photo the reason for a narrow baffle. I wouldn't be able to open the door.

Always nice to see another pair of Tannoys in some well designed cabs. What internal volume are those? They look reasonably big despite the "narrow" baffle.

They are about 127L but with internal bracing and other stuff i would say about 120L.

Very chic! Was the ash veneer expensive?

I have the same drivers and have recently shoe-horned them into some Devon cabs while I plot my diy mkII's. Actually they sound suprisingly good in the small 45-ish litre Devon cabs!

Yes Pete the same amp and cd. They don't look big in the photo but in the room they look larger. Your quite welcome to have a listen if your out this way.

The veneer was a 8ft x 4ft sheet which was paper backed called flexi veneer. Very easy to handle and easy to cut with scissors and no risk of tearing. The price was i think about £65 per sheet so not cheap but you do get matching veneer on the one sheet.

    Jim.

If you need the Parameters for your drivers and the specs for my build i can email them to you if you like. Just pm me if you do.

I'd guessed at 200+ ! Mine are just under 100L infinite baffle, which is probably the bare minimum given that my drivers are 15". I wish I had more room.
