Nottingham Calling ...........

I'm hoping we can organise something at one of the other chaps places for the next one .....uncle ants has offered provisionally

he has a great room/ system / etc ....but little parking [except public parking round the corner]

The 30th is a go I've penciled it in on the callender so that will prevent my dearest from having round her crowd !

as it gets closer I'll send dirrection to those who don't know were I am.

The next question is ......you'll want to take something away with you .......So I was thinking about if you all bring a three pin plug a nice roomy one, we can add some bits to make a RFI/EMI squasher as I've all the other bits to hand.

I'm working on the more the merrier.......!

please feel free.......So far

Uncle ants
bemsca
magpietim
ij russell
spet0114

have I missed anyone ?

room for a few more yet !

Just a quick note to thank Pete especially for a really good day yesterday.

Also Tony (+ Pete) for spending time putting my thorens turn table torights. i haven't tried it yet but am looking for ward to doing so.

I would say I couldn't hit the scck last night without test runningt the "whale sperm".........pete treated some cds I took along......and I could understand his enthusiasm. When I got it home and tried it I had actually had to stop the cd 2-3 seconds in and had to play it again to comfirm what I'd heard.

it was good meet every one,

David

Just a quick thanks to everyone who came over .....

I was great to meet and put faces to names...though I don't think we could have squeeezed anyone else in....!

I still didn't get to hear the still points.......
The auric illuminator was interseting in comparison with the cd flux ...but it would be unfair for me to comment before everyone else as I've a vested interest.

Those who left early missed the ugly duckling transformation into a swan ...or the cd5001 throw loose its shackles and sing.

Looks like is pizza for tea...again !!

How do the cd flux treated disc sound in your own systems ?

I'd also like to thank Pete for taking the time to organise yesterday. It was great to meet those that were there, have a chat and a listen to various music and equipment: I learnt a lot of useful stuff! :)

It did indeed.

Those who heard how dull and lifeless the Marantz was earlier in the day would have been absolutely shocked by the improvement that £5 worth of parts and 20 minutes soldering could have; Sure, it wasn't as good as the Quad but it was very listenable. It had dynamics, rhythm and clarity; None of which the stock player possessed.

This really is where you see the 10% rule (10% of the price of the player is the cost of parts) in action. Adding £25 of better parts at key points is cheap to do as DIY but would add £250 to the final price of the unit. Thank God for DIY is all I can say.

Upgraders and cablers like Zanash are a large indication of the future direction and development of this industry, and incidently all other *hobby* industries. Why? because of forums like this and the development of on line "community".

Richard.

Thanks Pete for throwing your doors open, it was an interesting afternoon. You failed to mention that part of the reason for the tight squeeze was that there were 6 cd players on the floor, all with their lids off :)

I brought the Auric Illuminator along to compare with Pete's whale sperm. I have tried the illuminator on about a dozen cds at home, some good recordings, others bad and I have to say that I could detect very little difference. I think that Pete's cd flux may have improved some cds, but it was not a night and day difference. I took along 3 copies of the same recording. We treated one with cd flux, one with illuminator and left the other untreated. I had a quick listen back at home last night and there did not seem to be much difference. After I have had the chance to have a longer listen, I will be happy to post all three on to anyone that is interested in comparing. The only caveat; I don't know if the makers of these magic potions claim that they work as well on cd-rs
