No Andy that's hair gel, What's Vseline ? :)

Mr Birkett, no offense taken each to his own, I feel the bare one looks, well bare, reminds me of base model golfs of old.

Update, thanks for all the help guys, got another P4 and Motherboard with rear and top case funs run off antec trueblue 480w case fans at front running slowwly and fan on cooler running at 1500rpm, I now have nice quiet PC and stable temp, CPU sitting at constant 55 C even a soilid hour of running CMR2005 temp had only risen to 56, would run a few degrees cooler if I had the window open, when using Photoshop P4 seems a lot faster than my mates XP3200, thats why I went P4 as it seems to be better for PS duaghter no 1 now has xp2000 and 512mb PC2700 ram, but it is noisy, daughter number 2 has P3 933 with 756mb ram (PC133), this is nice and quiet to but new P4 seems quietest of lot.

Yeah, the PC's niiiiice. Except for one thing - it takes AEONS to boot - it gets past the black XP starting screen, then sits there for ages on the first blue XP screen before getting to the "Welcome" one. Any ideas?

I've asked LHatkins (via email today) whether a total reinstall would be best (we "repaired" my old install after taking an image from my old PC's HDD) - I guess this would help?

Dom. I recently got myself a new SATA drive and controller card (see THIS THREAD ).

I had a few problems. Many were just down to not having tried anything like this before. Some I'm still unsure about.
I was unable to install XP onto the new drive, but managed to clone the old one onto it.
However, it now does like you describe! Takes over 10 mins to start up. And also, seems to freeze for about 30 seconds a time, quite often.

I'll (try) get it sorted (again) when I can be arsed.

Hmm - so that's not so good then...

I'm wandering if it's a USB thing though, as when I first plugged all the USB devices in it took a LONG time to boot, so I unplugged them and it booted fine. I reckon one of those is the culprit - very annoying!

When the machine's running though it's DAMN quick - as soon as the "welcome" screen pops up it's straight in :)

Mine won't boot(haven't waited 11 mins though) if I leave my H/D Mp3 player attached, disconect and it boots right away, BTW machine will slow down as more progs and especially things like fonts are loaded, alyhough regular defrags should help.

PS sorted temps out, different sensor needed, 55 at idle 62 full steam, all pretty quietly.
