Is it a problem that people buy cables?
 
It doesn't matter in practical terms, as it isn't my money. On a different level, it matters because it's a part of the audiophoolery/dumbing-down/anti-science axes.

Be happy with your magic cables and golden ears.

Hi Mr Devil

I would love to have a debate with you about God, but I suspect that this thread is not the place for it and probably the Moderators of ZG would not be up for it either.

The one thing I have noticed however is that like politicians you never engage in actual discussion, all you do is state your position and never actually engage in debate. To be fair I have not read all your posts/threads so I may be being unfair about never debating/discussing its just I can't recall seeing any sign of it before/elsewhere.

You do seem to have a fairly closed mind/solid opinion about a lot of topics (and entitled to them. I would defend that right to my last breath even if I did not hold it myself).

But it would be nice to have a two way conversation with you Mr Devil (have you any idea how weird that sounds/reads )

How many cables have you ever tried?

And you never heard a difference, not once,ever ?

I want this to stay friendly and please lets try and offer qualification for what we say. I would like to try and understand why Mr Devil and others can hear no difference. But I think we need to know what cables have been tried and with what kind of kit ?

I've tried different mains cables which my dealer lent to me (they get them for free). There's no difference, and why should there be?

On the other completely daft topic, please read "The god delusion" by Dawkins. It summarises the rational viewpoint.

Exactly! Someone posts something worthy of discussion and, time after time, the naysayers seem to find it impossible to shrug their collective shoulders and let the rest have their discussion. If the thread doesn't interest you, then don't participate. Why the obsessive desire to batter it senseless under a barrage of 'prove-its'? If someone's belief that a new mains cable improved the sound of their system why on earth is it so important that they be immediately ridiculed?

I have to say, I don't understand it either. But, there again, maybe it's just for the sheer hell of it. (Pun intended).

You still have not answered my questions. I can't know your point of reference if you won't share any info with me/us. Why ? And I take it its not just power cables but all cables as well that you can't hear a difference in ?

As to Richard Dawkings I am aware of his position. He states a lot of theories as being fact/truth , many of which are hotly debated in scientific circles. The so called facts/truths are being challenged all the time and every so often replaced by new facts/truths until those too are replaced with new ones.

Talking with you is like trying to bottle the wind. I feel like Richard Dimbleby trying to get answers out of the Labour party.

Come on lets have an exchange of info.

My understanding is that within the power supply of each piece of equipment there will be transformers and capacitors ,which store charge until it is needed, I just cannot see how a metre of cable could effect anything , no one has ever explained to me how a power cable could make a difference.

As long as the debate remains good natured without breaching AUP, you can discuss any topic you like. Of course Religious debates have no place in HiFi Room, do it in General Chat instead.

If you cannot hear a difference, do not buy it. If Fred thinks he can hear a difference then it works for him. In this sense perception is reality. So live with it.

By the way, how are you keeping ?

Have you taken tea with JW yet ?

I have now retired and hope to spend more time in Spain where there is an excellent health service to maintain my decomposing body.

I presume you still have the 52 / ATCs on Mana combo ?

It's nearly as stupid as using a valve amplifier. ;-)
A valve line stage might well improve your ATC's.
 
It is in the nature of science that our knowledge advances with time, something to be feared by all religions. What about Thor, btw? And Wotan? Zeus? Apollo? Neptune? What is it about your own particular god that makes it so likely to exist, rather than the innumerable older gods, or those from other religions? Or do those exist too?

I'm very well thanks, and have not heard of or from JW for several years. The only thing I've changed is to get a nice new Benz LP cartridge. I'm very jealous. I am fond of Spain. Hope you are well.

And what are the names of the companies who gives your dealer free cables. In my 20 years in the trade that has never happened. Trade/demo price yes but free. Never.

Lets share info and have a friendly chat.

As to the God debate If you want to start it in the General chat room I am happy to do so but only if you will actually debate with me and anyone else who wants to. If not there would be no point.

Why do you need Devil to as start a debate? Plenty of others would join in. Devil may or may not join in.

I can see his point with God and cables. There is a lack of hard evidence with both. There is a lot of faith involved with both.
