Reccomend me a Pre Amp

A guy I jam with has a pair of bridge mounted barcus berry ?
pickups on his accoustic bass.

Theyre plugged directly into his GK combo

Its a bit honky sounding and Ive got a feeling its an impedance
mis-match bettween the piezos and the combo

would a pre-amp help him even out the response ?

wow most unusual question ever on zerogain!

As a guitarist rather than a bassist, I would (guess) that his GK combo is an electric bass amplifier?

Electro-acoustic guitars sound unimpressive through most electric guitar amplifiers, you need a specialistic amp for amplifying acoustic instruments.

My view is that these offer; a clean, open sound - rather than a sound designed to sound excellent when distorted at high volume, adding body and weight to an electric guitar signal.

My gut feeling (based on what you've said) is that his amp simply isn't up to the job of amplifying an acoustic double bass. This is conjecture, I haven't heard it.
