Sumiko Blue EVO3 Question

Hi,

Anyone on here have this cartridge?

I have just fitted mine to my new deck and am concerned about the clearance of the exposed cartridge body and the cantilever in relation the the record, by that I mean, the angle of the cantilever is very shallow and as a result the body of the cartridge is nearly touching the record. The cartridge is brand new BTW.

I have had a look at it on the Sumiko web site and it appears to me that the stylus is well below the cartridge body. It is so low in fact that I had to increase the arm height to stop the cartridge body rubbing on the record.

Can this be right?

All comments greatly appreciated!!

Thanks
Hi I had one of these cartridges 3 weeks until I inadvertantly caught the stylus which is so so vunerable. Replaced it with a Micro Benz Ace which performs superbly and the stylus is much more protected by it's housing- be very careful

yes, these are fragile little things...
one thing you can do to avoid inadvertedly damaging it is to keep the plastic cilinder that comes in the packaging around it when it is resting. it looks a bit like a plastic collar around it but it saves it from catching dust and adds a layer of protection (not very solid but better than nothing).

i agree with alanbeeb... it seems bent to me, i have one on my Spacedeck and the cantilever line is straight as well coming out of the housing.

hope it is fixable.

Thanks again for the replies.

The dealer i bought the deck from is sending me out a new cartridge so I will be able to see first hand what it should be like.

I agree the cantilever is very exposed but just have to try to be careful with it!!

Indeed I learnt the hard way with my Lyra Dorian. I could have wept.....

£495!!- Ouch!! Was it your fault or someone doing you a favour of "giving your turntable a bit of a clean"!!

My fault completely, I'd bought it, fitted it, listened to it for an hour, then SWMBO was due to arrive home, England were ready to kick off, so I carefully slid home the guard, except the guard fits into two grooves on the body not to the top of the headshell. Result....

One castrated Lyra. Luckily Direct Line coughed, and another appeared.

Spoke to a dealer I know, he says most carts go in one of three ways, dusting, fitting the guard, or rushing to fit it in the excitement of something new.
