It was never proven as far as I know. Even now it's not (yet) conclusive.

Isn't there a Stig book to promote. Quel surprise, placed news items.... What a coincidence.

Well, we have no idea who African and American Stig are so the mystery is still there for me!

good? So a book publisher makes money out of a publicly funded entertainment 'persona' and lots of top gear fans get miffed. How is that good?

You just beat me to it lAmBoY. I see it as a breach of contract. IMO the Stig wouldn't have enjoyed such a following without the mystery.

I think it absolutely right that the Stigs should be able to capitalise on their anonymity.

All the "naked" presenters get lots of other work off the back of Top Gear – all of whom would be nobodies without it.

So then there will be no more Stigs in the future if its just a pathway to make easy money. Its a shame, I rather liked the Stig character and felt it added to an already great program. Now its got a nasty taste because of the driver and his publishers 'cashing in'.

He was not the first though. Perry McCarthy was the first and was sacked for wanting to make some money for himself like every presenter has done none of whom have any driving talent at all.

If it was known from the start that the new Stig was Ben Collins, 99% of the worldwide audience would have said "Who?".
