Apparently as well as a $10, 000 cable upgrade. I certainly wouldn't argue with that!

When they say "works" do they mean things sound different with it on. Does that make it better? Will my system sound anything more like the real thing (whatever that is). All we can hope for in our homes is a fairly poor rendering of the real thing. Go and listen to someone playing a live drum kit and then go straight home and listen to a clean recording of a drum kit. Game over.

all I can say is that this tweak works *exactly* as well as a $10,000 cable upgrade.

The reasons are that the Kensai speakers were on static display only, and that in a very large room there were three separate listening zones, each of which was operated in strict rotation.

    Ortofon

Accuphase amplification and JBL 4338 speakers (+ Ortofon's own party Kalistas). Not the best setup I've heard in this room, but fine just as long as the volume was kept under control (= sensei kept out...).

A right Royal front end. All analogue as usual chez Ortofon

Hey Mr DJ. News this year are the MC09A and MC 09B carts which reuse bits of an 80s design to keep costs *right* down and bring some very serious competition into the 103R / AT33PTG category.

Ortofon Kalista speakers. LF EQ required, but relatively cheap and actually pretty good.

Just a small adjunct to Joel's Tokyo show thread , I have been listening to one of the DigitaL DomaiN amps , and it is a cracker, tonally it is very similar to my Allnics doesn't sound soft or harsh, it is dynamic, the same amp can be used as an integrated, stereo power, if you have two they can be bridged or mono's.
Worth a listen if you get a chance, keith.

    In the meantime

... Have been and am far too busy to do this properly at the moment, so I'm just going to dump the remaining photos of the International show. Hopefully getting the names of the manus right!

These were all in the same room, which is one of the largest and best attended at the show. Liked the sound of the Ocean Way, it's a really refined PA rig. Need to be a long way off for those drivers to integrate, though...

Speakers are Consononce or something form Austria. Usual small driver / narrow baffle tallboy sound. Ridiculous prices.

    misc bits and bobs

    Raidho

Joseph have moved into a big room this eyar, which is good news as previously they've consistantly vied for the worst sound of the show award. Still not very good, but you can at least stand farther away...
The Raidho designer thinks he's designed the perfect transducer. Umm....
Wonder how much we'll have to pay for that interesting exotica!

    Jbl

The Grand Finale. It's no secret that I'm a JBL fanboi. However, the only prizes JBL won this year were for loudest and worst sound in show 2009. Truely awful.

Masked fat boy on the left was trying it on with a Tune Dem (TM). I laughed. Out loud. Awful sound and far too loud from the "new" 4429 speakers.

That's a reading I took of the 9900 demo from outside the room (ie near 100db peak on the room's 60hz node). Sometimes (quite often, in fact) the stats tell you all you need to know...

Thanks Joel, a lot of really interesting pictures! It must have taken quite a bit of dedication to take all those.

    Cheers!
I don't know about dedication, but a little organisation goes a long way. I just started from the top and worked my way down, and then posted in the same order.
Going on the Friday of the show and getting there early really helps and the crowds didn't arrive until much later in the afternoon.
The photos provide a good reason to do the show properly rather than than just the bits I think I'll like or find interesting. There were some quite nice surprises.
