i need to dampen my turntable dramatically as i dont have a shelf or dedicated stand.
ive been thinking bitumen for the sub schassis and mdf for the base board.
ive also been thinking about blu tac for other parts , motor etc.
i know you can go over the top on this so i thought id ask if any one knows of any good materials for an isolation platform , schassis dampening , arm board dampening etc.
i pulled this of the net that gave me a giggle,

"Put some plants in the neighbourhood of your turntable. The relative humidity prevents static charges. (It also helps a little bit dampening any resonances. Actually a lot of plants is cheaper than those 'room tuning devices'.)"

might locate all my gear to the green house......

How much money have you got to spend here? Granite is very good, carbon fibre is simply miraculous, but much more expensive.

im thinking about building the armboard out of carbon fibre if i can find some , not sure where to look. its a thorens td 166 mk 11 so the armboard is quite small. im putting an sme arm on there so i have to build an arm board anyways.
ive stripped the speedchanger and arm lift out of it and plan to build a new plinth and base board out of either mdf ( will require veneer which im not sure about cos ive never done it before) or real wood like oak and an mdf base board.
i just need to find something to dampen down the sub schassis and upper plinth , maybee the motor housing but heat transfare would be an issue here.

I've had my armboard made from carbon fibre, and for such a small piece of your TT, it makes a huge difference. A company called Fibre-Lyte have done work for me and a few people I know - just supply them with the specs you want and they do the rest. Don't be put off by the webpage, they will make carbon fibre for any purpose.

I had my armboard and some other pieces made for a total of £113. The armboard is a pretty basic design, the other pieces I had done were kind of complicated, so I guess the armboard alone must have been £40-50.

Are you sure that's solid carbon fibre and not just the sticky-backed flat sheeting? The sheeting itself is just a weave and is made largely for aesthetic purposes and as a scratch protector. The solid CF is what you need, as the sheeting has no vibration damping qualities to speak of.

i'll ask him when i order to make sure its not woven stuff but a solid slab.

now , should i go for 5 or 6 mil?

i doubt there would be much of a difference eh?

Carbon fibre is serious material for vibration control, I bet that extra 1mm would make a significant difference. I kid you not!! And for the price you've been quoted, either one is a bargain.

your probably right mr c but that 1 mm could put my vta up to a point where i cant bring it down enough to be level.
