Maybe it say's it all in that I've not bothered much here myself and due to it being so quiet... hmm... catch 22!

I see no reason this site should not be as popular as certain others at the end of the day (or much more popular anyway!). Lack of publicising its existence?

There seems to mainly be people who joined and asked a single question, which usually goes unanswered, and never post here again.... very odd.

Let's liven it up folks!:)

This used to be a thriving forum when I joined back in '06. A few years later it died away and revival attempts were never successful...

Well let's keep trying then! We could soon see that virtually every new post is by Arkless Electronics as I reckon it needs some life breathing into it:)

Hello.
It's been years since I posted here, although I see on the classical music thread that I used to be a frequent poster here!
Hi Jerry

I get a regular email summary of recent posts and try and reply to any thread I can make a meaningful contribution to.

I might put a link in the Wam and see if anyone wants to come over here on the basis it's quiet but it doesn't seem to go down regularly (assuming the new owner keeps it going).

Considering the sad condition of the 'Wam, I don't suppose it'll make much difference. Anyone of note there has moved to the Maverick forum, and the previous lot of departures from the 'Wam, some years ago, set up Audioabattoir so there's hardly anyone on the 'Wam any more.

Early days, but the Wam seems to be picking up again. Time will tell.

I'm also a Maverick member , but can't use it because of that horrible dark background which can't be changed.

There are so many platforms, where folks can make their views known about issues other than HiFi, cars, etc, etc. So much so, folks talk themselves out - the same societal issues are raised, albeit twisted to suit the current crop of stories doing the rounds. After 77 seven year, it is all increasingly boring - I've heard it all before.

Years and years of it, only confirms to me how much the Public are 'Willing to be Manipulated', by both Politicians and the Media. They have us stewing in our own juices and we seem to relish it. Epicurus said, ''Anyone over the age of 5 who does not realise that the Gods are men, is a fool''.

To put a modern twist on it, I offer, ''Anyone who thinks our society has gained anything over the last decade is an idiot''. Recently, a political guru on Sky, said he was looking forward to the Election as he was going to have ''So Much Fun''. It's just a game for these folks and a means of doing very well for themselves. No doubt being ''Entertained'' by politicians of every hue!

The Red Wall turned Blue, last time around - ''Things have to change, it could not be worse''. So, it did turn Blue, and things did get worse! Now, those that Aided and Abetted that worsening have ''Jumped Ship'', to form a new political sphincter group, while Farage continues with his ''Houdini Act'', getting out of every political hole he has persuaded the masses to follow him into - How is the British Fishing industry doing now, Nigel? Given you were on the EU committee for Fisheries for so many years and understood how it all worked - or didn't as you would have it. It's every body else's fault, is it not?

One man, allegedly, ''Turned Water into Wine''. This lot have been telling us they can change a crock of Cow Dung into 24 Carat Gold for as long as I can remember, and doing so again - from which we can expect to take Two Hundred and Fifty Million Pounds a week to fund the NHS. After Brexit, the greatest act of self harm any society has inflicted upon itself, I vowed, never again to vote. It is not my Country, it is not a democracy - and never has been. I have no choice as to how they have ever spent my taxes, and continue to.

I lived at a time when conscription was just coming to an end. Now, it is being touted as a means of making youngsters more rounded members of society by participating in another hairbrained scheme to dig politicians out of a hole. Of course, it has nothing to do with the fact that our current political leaders have led us into a situation where the world is more unstable than it was in the 1930's.

My postal vote arrived and was immediately torn up an put in the bin. I'm out of it. Every now and then, the World suffers from Universal Bouts of Insanity, which political leaders are perpetually blind to - despite the fact that they are wholly responsible for its emergence. I can't change that - actually, I have never been able to change anything. I just pay my taxes.

So, get on with it guys. If the Political Crap really becomes so bilious over the next few weeks, at least I have my Stax Headphones to drown it out.

Don't you mean, more of the same? No matter, when self criticism ends, there is little point in voting one way or another The consequences are irrelevant, to a populous who are more than happy to lay blame at everyone else's door, other than their own.

Popular beat combo "The Who" said it all in "Won't get fooled again"

"There's nothing in the street
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are effaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new Constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again, no, no

Yeah
Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss"

"Like a circle in a spiral,
Like a wheel within a wheel.
Never ending, or beginning,
in an ever spinning wheel".

"It's a lovely day, today,
The Sun is out, the sky is blue,
There's nothing there to spoil the view,
The bar is open - Hip, Hip, Hooray!"

Some years ago, City Councils in Sweden were tired of the expense of removing Graffiti from the walls of Public buildings. So they screwed Blackboards to the walls and provided chalk and an eraser. Mister Joe Public could then scrawl his protest, or what-ever on the board, which could then be wiped away next time the urinals, platforms or underpasses were cleaned.

One couldn't rebel anymore! Protest was no longer a protest - just another comment on a blackboard that "Teacher" would wipe out. Effectively, commenting on any issue became just something else that authorities could ignore - it lasted no more than the time between one cleaning session and the next.

Today, we have Forums, Question time and "Readers Comments" in newspapers. "Comments made on everything and saying nothing" Lip service paid to issues, until next weeks Q.T or tomorrows newspaper.

We have so depleted our armed forces with continuous involvement in conflict - worn out by continuous British Government Foreign Intervention. If personnel still had their limbs - or minds in tact - they left . So much so, we are seriously undermanned.

However, we can now look forward to a "Re-stocking", courtesy of a "National Service Scheme", as proposed by Right-wing political luminaries. Of course, such "Public Service", will in no way find youngsters, like my grandkids, being shipped abroad to some "Trouble Spot" that our Government saw fit to poke their noses into! "Like Hell they won't"

And what will we do - "Nowt". Not strictly true. We'll Puff out our Chests, wave our little Union Jacks and stand on the foreshore to wave off our brave troops, never knowing if we will ever see our loved ones again.

"And the Rich will get Richer", thanks to the funds poring into Armament Factories!

Coming back to the main question why is it so quiet here? For some clues I looked at the main topics on this particular thread and I think it's maybe because the topics chosen don't really inspire different opinions or debates. Someone mentioned that in good civilised societies never mention religion and politics. I think this thread needs a good dose of controversial religion and politics. It needs a spark

On other HiFi forums sometimes it came to personal arguments over Audio matters, sometimes the arguments would get a bit out of control and the moderator would have to come in and take control (a bit like a referee giving a yellow card to the offending player)

Unfortunately though in the topsy turvy mad world of hi fi forums "ignorance is strength" and the idiots who don't know how to fit a 13A plug.... but in spite of this post "fake news" about electronics... things that are not even possible within the laws of physics, are NOT the ones who get the red card!!:mad: As in most things in life the phrase "follow the money" applies.
