I think it might be time this thread gets locked. I for one am starting to get uncomfortable with some of the things being posted. Maybe Im lucky as I couldnt give a shit about someone's race, religion, colour, creed etc. Im proud that the UK is a modern, open and on the whole tolerant place the live, Im proud that theres such a rich variety of life here and we ALL benefit from it. Whats happened is a result of a very small minority that uses a religion to identify itself, its no different than soccer thugs using a club as the central identity.

And before you say it, yes I will stop reading this thread.

To change the direction slightly...

I was paying a flying visit to the blog of my favourite Marxist professor and he pointed me to an interesting article about the relationship between cats and dogs, published in Haaretz, my favourite leftist Israeli paper (yes, don't worry fellow forum members, this is still uberfascist Steve 7V, I just happen to have many friends, acquaintances and watering-holes on the left).

Anyway, I got to thinking about the sniffer dog postings that were made earlier. You know how some projects use loads of individual PCs networked together to make one big super PC? Well, could the millions of dog owners amongst us take their pet mutts to some sort of class that would teach them to react to the scent of explosives? Just a thought, probably a no-goer but still.

Regards
Steve M

spelling is up to a certian ponit overated - besides which i'm not very good at it - that was the education system in the uk in the early 70's for you. as for grammer it's the same story.

i thought that this thread would smoke out the usual suspect(s). it did.

Nobody, but I believe Dr. Johnson said that patriotism was the last refuge of the scoundrel.

LoL, well my cocky answer fell flat on its face after Micheal corrected it.

I agree with your other point btw.

Right.

So a few weeks ago, you were complaining because of the content of posts of certain members and then you go and start a thread that would encourage just the comments that you allegedly find so offensive / upsetting.

So if you find it so upsetting then why start threads like this? I can almost guarantee nobody else would bother, so I put it to you that you just did it so you could read said offensive threads.

In future, it would probably be a good idea if you didnt whinge on about the content of posts if your going to start threads that will attract exactly that kind of response.

As for the topic at hand, my only opinion is that everyone should have freedom of speech, even the BNP, otherwise we become little better than places like Iraq. I think someones already said this though...

i started the thread because the use of that image by the bnp is worth discussiing.

that's because i find racism and other forms bigotry offensive. as i said above the initial point about the bnp was worth making and if i hadn't someone else would have done.

I agree although i edited this to add that at the very least there is an issue about sensitvity, even if they had a point.

Maybe time to close the thread?

Shame if it does. I was going to post a few things but have got to go out now.

SCIDB

I only have 3 points to make regarding the incidents in london

1. The Muslim community is as appalled as everybody else. I've heard many prominent muslims say they feel ashamed that someone from their own community would do such a thing. Muslim clerics have volunteered to help the gov't to fight terrorism.

2. The poor parents/families of these people feel ashamed and disgraced about what these people have done. Some of them feel they have to leave the country, such is their shame and fear for their lives.

3. Muslim clerics have made it perfectly clear that their religeon does not condone violence, and abhors death to other human beings, whom are all seen as being brothers and sisters under god. They say that these teachings are clear in the Koran.

The reason I wanted to say these things is that it seems to me the terrorists betrayed their god, shamed their families and shamed their communities.

These points I felt were getting lost in a culture of anger and blame.

I think Chris has made some of the most pertinent points in this thread.

These points I felt were getting lost in a culture of anger and blame

I have been trrying to fight the anger side of my feelings relating to what happened, it is important we keep a straight head when deciding what way we will go in this matter.

Anger is an obvious side effect of any atrocity, but we should not let it cloud our overall understanding and judgement of the events.

Since there seems to be a general feeling that this thread has run its course, including by the originator of the thread, I shall close it.
