Is iTunes any good ?

Pity all the music is @ 128K though, or at least it was when I last heard... is it still 128K?

i-Tunes rocks :drum: !

Excuse the Americana but it's far and away the best piece of Importing/Burning/Playing interfaces. Period.

The import rates are extensive. I import at 320kb but if you wish you can rip whole CD tracks sans compression or why not .wav them in ?

You'll be twitching for an i-Pod next.

Ooooh, it's a bit gorgeous :groupies: :buddies: :jig: :music:.

A worthy purchase. Enjoy :D .

No I'm talking about iTunes... isnt it some kind of P2P service which charges 99 cents for a track?

Paul, that's their online download library; 10 tracks for $10 mugguffins :) .

It's not available in the UK market yet (due to copyright/distribution issues) but should be here by the end of the year.

It went through the roof in the states and i-Pod sales went in an equally impressive direction.

"The Pods Attack" !

Ah ok, I've looked at it, it appears to be a jukebox type app. I dont really have any need for it though.

I use EAC for ripping, which creates high quality MPC files for me as well as a playlist file. I then create shortcuts of the playlist files in the My Music folder which defaults to Foobar, so hence I already have a jukebox of sorts...

Bye-bye Musicmatch - Hello iTunes :D

Ever since I saw iTunes on my mates Mac I've been dying for it to come on in a PC version...

Michael.

Musicmatch has always been regarded by computer audiophiles as a complete POS for ripping music files...

I never used Musicmatch as a ripping tool and I won't use iTunes for that also. I have EAC for that :)

I'll use it as a music library/jukebox/MP3 player instead of having to use Windows Media Player. It'll be handy when I get my iPod too :)

Michael.

Anyone who has the facility to burn music should have itunes as their primary device for doing this.

I know I bleat on about macs all the time, but I am pleased to see that the windows community can now see the type of software I have the pleasure of using daily.

We also have imovie and iphoto which all work together, so for instance I could import a DV into the mac via fire wire and edit it in imovie, within imovie my whole itunes library is accessable to put in the movie, and in iphoto itunes library is available to do quicktime slide shows.

itunes is very easy to use, so easy people think its basic, but underneath its a very powerfull programme, which makes creating CDs, and of coourse dealing with your ipod essential.

Enjoy.

P.S. the music store is only in America right now, but with the money they are raking in, they are working to Europe wide next year. I am not sure about this service because ultimatly the quality is comprimised, but this does not effect using itunes for your burning requirements!

Shame there's so little of it though, eh Gary?

A combination of EAC, Feurio, and CDex is all you need really for burning on a Windows box. iTunes looks lovely, no doubt, but it's hardly groundbreaking.

If I listen to music on a PC, it's usually a Linux box, so it's no use to me anyway.

Thing is Side Show, it is ground breaking.

You see you are on about software which is not easy to use and requires a degree in nerdery. I do not have these.

When I first got a burner, I was able to go into itunes totally green and creat a playlist and burn it.

You'll have to excuse me on the little amount of software, I don't know what you are refering to. Do you?

If you can't use Feurio, you're probably unable to tie your own shoelaces.

The fact that there's a paucity of decent Mac software. OSX has improved matters, for sure, since you get lots of BSD tools and a command line.

Just a gentle tease Gary, don't get your knickers in a twist.

Na, I am cool, I just don't understand what you mean.

As far as I can find there are games not available for mac (I always thought thats what games consoles were for) and certain accounting software, although I notice MYOB or what ever it is called is coming.

As for the burning software you refer to, I don't use PCs so was only guessing on its usability. Although I noticed that windows users were always gutted that itunes wasn't available to use with their ipods. I wonder why....

In fairness though this is a good move by apple, it will allow windows users to get a feel for mac software which I think is good. And of course they get X millions of PC users using the music store.

As much as I like apple, I am not blind to a bit of blatent cashing in when I see it!

FWIW worth Ian I use EAC, CDEx and Nero (instead of Feurio) but I still think that iTunes rocks! Even if I only use it as a music library and player it's still worth having.

I'll give the ripper in iTunes a go but I doubt it will be a patch on EAC, especially with copy-protected CDs.

btw Ian, what do you need EAC and CDEx for? They do essentially the same thing. Now I'm an EAC convert I was going to ditch CDEx. It's only advantage is that it's marginally less fiddly to use.

Hmmm, well as far as I can ascertain [through use] you won't get knowt from anything that's got the 'Copy Controlled' sticker on it. Maybe it's different with i-Tunes running on a PC but I doubt it.

If anybody out there knows how to get around this - I'll be most grateful :D as I have loads of new stuff I can't put on my Pod :grrr: :bub: :banghead: :(.

Well, I have CDEx on a laptop, and EAC on a desktop box, and use either depending on which machine is booted. I generally use CDEx because, as you say, it's marginally less fiddly, but recently I've noticed that EAC will rip things that CDEx errors on (copy protection, I think). And using *nix on a regular basis means I'm used to having several different tools for doing the same job...

See above answer. Choices are limited on Macs. There's software to do most things, but not much choice unless you roll your own.

You know itunes shouldn't be used for copying CDs ;-)

Actually I am having some good results importing all my 45s into an audio programme then into itunes for the final burn, the results a resonable if not fantastic.
