Dear MarcThis record should give an idea both of Rodrigues Coelho and of Portuguese organ building.

    Thanks for this link!

I didn't find a credit card nor a PayPal possibility, though.
And it's 10 Euro xtra costs outside Germany.

I searched the Dutch library catalogue: no copies of this one. Then I found another chance at Amazon.de and after a deep breath (I have to be very cautious with my wallett) I ordered this issue. In total (plus delivery costs) it's even cheaper than at Akzente.

And now, for the next, say, two or three months, I don't want to be advised to purchase anything again ....

But anyhow: thanks again! I'm looking forward to the 'confrontation' with Iberia!

    Thread duty:
listening to JS Bach (oh, really??): Piet Wiersma playing on (a.o.) the Hinsz-organ of the Petruskerk at Leens, NL. Right now it's time for the Präludium und Fuge in C-Dur BWV 547. Great piece of music!

Ok, in one month an a half I'll suggest something you cannot refuse ;) I hope you like it. I hate to suggest records, because it has happened that people did not like them...

I have not listened to this for a long time, but in my distant memory I recall a very worthwile interpretation.

Woolley's Sweelinck organ CD was OOP, when I got so far as to look for it. On the other hand I own his Sweelinck harpsichord CD, and I appreciate his scholary and subtle style.

IMO Weckmann, Scheidemann, Bruhns and Lübeck are all great composers, who wrote interesting and expressive music. Well, none of them reaches the level of Buxtehudes best works as to intensity and idiomatic organ writing.

For Scheidemann I think the Naxos series with Pieter van Dijk (vol.1) and Julia Brown (vol.2-5) are more than adequate, actually Scheidemann's works are not that well served by the recording industry. And I would say, that he is more difficult accessible than Weckmann, Lübeck and Bruhns.

For Weckmann I would recommend Wolfgang Zehrer's recording for Naxos of his organ music. Weckmann also wrote some Toccata's and Suites for harpsichord and Gustav Leonhardt has recorded most of these for Sony (with some Froberger works as fillers). Another lovely recording by Monica Westheimer for Danish Classico is difficult to get hold of.

For Lübeck and Bruhns the recordings for
Ricercare by Bernhard Foccroulle (Bruhns)and the series for
    CPO by Friedhelm Flamme (Lübeck)
    are consistently good and recommendable.

While Lübeck's organ style resembles Buxtehudes very much, Bruhns few surviving Toccata's are'written in a much more abrupt stylus phantasticus, and they are difficult to make flowing and coherent. My preferred recording of these works is the one by Helmut Winter for French Harmonia Mundi.

Listened to this to day. A splendid disc I think. Better than I recalled.

Parkins plays with authority and conviction, making the most of this certainly great music. The organ is a modern variety, a splendid Flentrop with much character, and I might easily be deluded to believe it were a restored baroque organ, even if I would become confused as to the country of origin. Not really Deutsch, French or anything else.

Engineered and produced by W Rübsam of course.

Not in this case .... I like it!
So: thanks again for the advice!

The Naxos disc has to arrive yet. But the first small review on this site is encouraging! :)

    One Day (Bonus Track) SONG

One day, you'll be on your own
You won't have a shout any more
One day, you'll be in the ground
    You're over and out, and
You've missed the last tube home

One day, you'll be on your own
You won't have a shout any more
One day, you'll be in the ground
    You're over and out, and
You've missed the last tube home

Woke up this morning, heard someone snoring
Knobheads going on about modern life is boring
Bears have their own music, no-one can prove it
Just like I'm a guy of guys
You think I'm gonna move it

One day, you'll be on your own
You won't have a shout any more
One day, you'll be in the ground
    You're over and out, and
You've missed the last tube home

Sum up together, nobody's the wiser
It's life in the sunshine, that's what I would advise her
    ?

One day, you'll be on your own
You won't have a shout any more
One day, you'll be in the ground
    You're over and out, and
You've missed the last tube home

One day, you'll be on your own
You won't have a shout any more
One day, you'll be in the ground
    You're over and out, and
You've missed the last tube home

    Woooooo!
    Yeeeh-haaa!

One day, you'll be on your own
You won't have a shout any more
One day, you'll be in the ground
    You're over and out, and
You've missed the last tube home

I have been listening to harpsichord music by Bach today, a.o. parts Das Wohltemperierte Clavier, played by Léon Berben (Brilliant Classics). Not the most impressive interpretation maybe, but it certainly did not made this sunny Sunday less sunny. :)

Apart from that, I'm also wondering: what happened to regular 'classical' members of the Zerogain forum like tones, Rodrigo de Sá and bat?

I hope you guys are all right!

And are you still visiting this (renewed) forum?

I listened to Roussel Symphony no 2, some Copland and Piston, then about half of Britten's Billy Budd.
