Forum logo competition!

BL21DE3: I like your last logo; perhaps have the circle thing at the left rather than the right tho. I like the Naim one too :)

Nepherim, here's a version with the 'circles' reversed.

LOL, I like the nipper one!

I think I may give up on this, I dont think I am as good at this as some of you lot are!

BL21DE3, you've got some awesome software there somewhere (or skills beyond mortal knowledge)

:)

Bottleneck, glad you like the logos. It's just a matter of knowing how to combine effects to get something new and interesting. The 'classical' logo (and all the others) is built entirely from fonts, alpha channels, procedural textures and blending effects. For example the wood is just a simple random noise texture that has been stretched horizontally and then warped. With the knots/variations being created from more intense warps blended into the original texture.

Photoshop? Prolly, nothing else comes close cept maybe macromedia freehand not as difficult as it looks once you get used to it.
Photoshop and Freehand are very different beasts as the former is primarily used for photographic manipulation (ie pixels) and the latter is used for creating vector art. Also IMHO Adobe's Illustrator is a lot easier to use than Freehand (which I don't like at all), but I suppose that comes down to what you're used to.
Michaelab, I'd like a stab at this, but as I'm having wooden floors fitted the next few days, I won't have a chance to do anything until the weekend, if you don't mind waiting until then.

Actually meant the Corel one as its easier to use for novices, I have been using PS since version 5 and illustrator since & and would agree totally with you once you get the hang of them nothing else is quite the same, am currently using CS and the Photoshop 8 seems a bigger jump than 6-7.

Some really good designs so far :)

Not sure if I'll get a chance, but will try and have a play around.

Wonder what I can do with just M$ Paint? :D
