Well it would look a bit obvious that I really like the ATC active range down to the 50... so I left them out. :)

I had a pair of Soundlab A1 Electrostatics. They were pretty amazing. But they were 7' x 3' panels. I remember going to see Chicargo in the West End, after the show we bought a CD. When we got home we played the CD and it sounded better then the live show. It must have been the poor acoustics in the Theatre.

I also believe there will be some new revolutionary transducers on display by a couple of companies, that are genuinely ground braking and simply and utterly Ding Dong :)
Is the Milan show the same week as the Heathrow one this year?

    Best speakers..? Quad 57's

    Hi

Your question regards the best speaker I've ever heard..? in my 30 years of hi-fi experience I can say the best speaker I've heard are a pair of; Quad ESL 57's, simple as that!

    Totally magical!

...much as I like quad 57's (and they were a ground-breaker).... the latest quad electrostatics are an awful lot better IMHO. Have you heard them Peter?

I had a couple of listens to the new quads. Not my cup of tea. I still rate 57's. If you can try and have a listen to a rebuilt pair with new panels. I'm not keen on the modified units either. Just MHO.

I would like a pair of Braun LE1's though.

Nearly 10 years on my benchmark is still a pair of Avantgards - can't remember the system, cd and tubes I believe nor the model. Think it was Duos but may have been Unos - they were blue... I do remember the tingle up the spine. The system seemed to create an event rather than replay music. Funnily enough have heard newer even more expensive models in recent years that sounded like good hifi but they've lacked presence in comparison. Oh for a room the size of a small terrace house... A Wilson Maxx/Audio Research system has come closest since.

All the best speakers I have heard were custom made horns. Also Oris. Thats why I am so intrigued by Cessaro and Loving Voice horns, btw. Never heard them though.

Keith with his Cessaros is only a few miles away from you. It's worth giving him a call to arrange a visit
